Originally from the DC Metropolitan area, Lauren moved to Pittsburgh for college, and fell in love with the city and her Pittsburgh born and raised Husband. After college, it took Lauren taking a corporate sales job to realize money is not everything. Going back to school, taking part-time jobs at restaurants, and non-profits. Lauren realized her love of helping people, by helping herself finding happiness through working out and taking control of her health. Her corporate job caused her to gain weight, rarely exercise and not take care of herself. Eventually, she started working towards a career in Public Health, and now works for a local non-profit and hospital on community health initiatives. In addition, she is an avid CrossFitter, yogi, indoor cycling instructor, and fitness enthusiast.
What’s on your playlist?
My playlist depends on the day, my mood, and even those around me. Right now I am obsessed with 90s/early 2000s throwbacks because I crave the nostalgia!
What will we always see you with?
My large purse or bag. I tend to carry a “Mary Poppins” bag around. It has just about everything in it: snacks, water, first aid kit, notebooks, pens, clothes, and so many other things.
What’s your mantra?
“You can do anything!” I am believer that you can do anything you put your mind to, and that your body can do more than you think. When you have the right mindset, you can accomplish way more than you could ever imagine.
What song title explains your teaching style?
“Are You That Somebody” – Aaliyah. Am I going to be the somebody who pushes and inspires you?
What are three of your best personality traits?
Outgoing, ambitious, and curious.
All-time favorite breakfast nosh?
Donuts! I go nuts for donuts.
Who inspires you?
The people I surround myself with. My husband, my parents, family, friends, co-workers, clients, etc. You should be inspired by those around you, not just famous people you admire.
When I’m planning a class I’m about to teach, I always think:
How can I challenge my clients, and myself?
You’d never catch me wearing:
A waist trainer or sweat belt. I am a firm believer that there is no quick fix for results, and I never want to promote something that could be dangerous.
If you looked in my gym bag you’d find:
Deodorant, specifically Old Spice “Fiji.” It’s the only deodorant I use, and I swear by it.
When I’m teaching, I’m most impressed by a student who:
Gives it their all, but knows their limit.
When I’m feeling unmotivated to work out I:
Try to do a shorter workout than usual, or do a stretching/yoga workout. I know if I don’t get moving, my day can’t start.
My favorite thing to do when I want to relax is:
“Lauren time.” I coined the term one day when my mom asked me what I was doing. It just means doing whatever I want and spending time with myself!
